Description

Admire the sacred grandeur of the statue of Saint Elmirus Bishop, a masterpiece of faith and artisan craftsmanship that honors the sculptural tradition of Val Gardena. This wooden sculpture captures the Saint in a pose of deep contemplation, with his head slightly bowed and his serene expression suggesting introspection and prayer.

The rich dark red cope is sumptuously finished with precious golden borders, which are also found on the miter and the long crozier, symbolizing his spiritual guidance. Every detail of the liturgical vestments – from the underlying blue/gray tunics, to the white alb, to the cope clasp with the cross – is defined with a pictorial precision that gives depth and three-dimensional realism. The Saint holds an open book in his right hand, a symbol of doctrine, while resting his foot on a second closed volume, details that emphasize his role of wisdom.

True to Dolfi's artisanal logic, this statue is made from the finest alpine woods: Crafted from maple wood for smaller sizes (up to 56cm) and from linden wood for monumental dimensions (from 60cm up to 200cm). Choose between the C (hand-painted) finish or the precious 3G (three shades of brown) for an eternal tribute to sacred art.

Story
St. Elmo, or Erasmus, bishop of Formia and martyr, is revered as the protector of sailors and navigators. His story, although partly shrouded in legend, tells of atrocious tortures suffered during the Diocletian persecutions, including evisceration with a winch, a symbol often depicted. His intercession is invoked against the dangers of the sea and intestinal diseases. His figure is a beacon of faith and resilience.
