Description
Saint Edward the Confessor was an English monarch, reigning from 1042 until his death in 1066. He is considered the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. Edward is known for his religious devotion and his role in promoting Christianity and the construction of Westminster Abbey. He is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church. His feast day is on October 13th. Edward is also remembered for not having legitimate children, which contributed to the subsequent period of instability and the Norman conquest of England in 1066. Dolfi created the sculpture in maple wood, hand-painted with oil paints
