Description

Admire the sculpture of Saint Aldegonda, a work that radiates serenity and deep devotion. The figure, in a contemplative pose, is masterfully sculpted with a monastic habit that falls in ample and voluminous folds, enriched by an oil paint finish that enhances its materiality.

The golden crosier, a symbol of her abbatial role, and the rosary cross shine as precious accents against the sober brown tones of the habit. Every detail, from the humble barefoot position to the expression on her face, is meticulously crafted by our master sculptors from Val Gardena. This precious representation is an authentic symbol of South Tyrolean craftsmanship, the result of centuries-old tradition.

The statue of Saint Aldegonda is available in different sizes: made of maple wood for sizes up to 56cm and lime wood for other sizes, ensuring the same unparalleled quality of carving and hand finishing in every case.

Story
Saint Aldegonde of Maubeuge (Aldegundis, Aldegonde), born around 630 in Cousolre, France, was the daughter of Waldebertus I and Bertilla. She fled an arranged marriage to devote herself to religious life, receiving the veil from Saint Amand. In 661 she founded the double monastery of Maubeuge, becoming its first abbess. Known for visions and miracles, she died of cancer on January 30, 698. Her relics, initially in Cousolre, were translated to Maubeuge. Her veneration spread in Belgium, northern France, and Germany. She is the patron saint against diseases of the eyes, breast, children, cancer, headaches, ulcers, inflammation, fever, and sudden death, and for children with walking difficulties.
