Description

Bring the centuries-old devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel into your home with this precious hand-carved wooden statue, created by the master carvers of Val Gardena according to Alpine artisan tradition.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the most revered Marian figures in the world. Her feast day is celebrated on July 16, commemorating her apparition to Saint Simon Stock in 1251, when the Virgin gave him the Scapular of Carmel as a sign of protection. Her cult is widespread in Italy, Spain, Latin America, and the Philippines, with solemn processions and devotional traditions passed down from generation to generation.

This sculpture is available in two finishes:

  • Colored maple wood, hand-painted — each statue is a unique piece, finished with traditional colors applied by hand by Dolfi artisans, with details that enhance the sacredness and beauty of the image
  • Natural maple wood — the clear and warm grain of Alpine wood enhances the purity of the sculpture, for those who prefer an essential and contemporary style

A devotional gift of high craftsmanship, ideal for baptisms, confirmations, religious anniversaries, or as a sacred presence in your home.

Detail & Meaning
Our Lady of Carmel is venerated as the protectress of the soul and a symbol of hope in Catholic tradition. Her cult originated on Mount Carmel, in the Holy Land, where the Carmelite friars chose her as their patroness in the 12th century. In 1251, according to tradition, she appeared to Saint Simon Stock, entrusting him with the Scapular of Carmel—a small Marian garment that the faithful wear as a sign of devotion and a promise of protection. Her feast day is celebrated on July 16th with solemn processions worldwide, from Italy to Spain, from Latin America to the Philippines.
Story
The origin of the cult of Our Lady of Carmel dates back to the 12th century, when a group of Christian hermits settled on Mount Carmel, in Palestine, inspired by the figure of the prophet Elijah. These men of prayer founded the Carmelite Order and placed the Virgin Mary at the center of their spirituality, dedicating a chapel to her on the sacred mountain.

With the spread of the Order in Europe, the Marian cult took deep root in Italy, Spain, France, and England. In 1251, tradition tells of the Virgin's apparition to Saint Simon Stock, prior general of the Carmelites, in Cambridge: Mary is said to have given him the Scapular, promising eternal salvation to whoever wore it with faith.

Over the centuries, devotion to Our Lady of Carmel spread throughout the Catholic world, brought by Carmelite missionaries to the Americas, the Philippines, and Africa. Today, she is venerated in thousands of churches and shrines, with her solemn feast day on July 16th, a day of processions, prayers, and renewal of the Scapular.
