Originariamente, gli scultori si dedicavano prevalentemente all'arte sacra, ma presto inclusero figure di pastori, animali domestici e selvatici per popolare la rappresentazione del presepe (Krippe), che divenne un fulcro della devozione domestica. La volpe non è solo un animale locale, ma una figura che testimonia la ricchezza e la vitalità del paesaggio alpino che circonda l'evento sacro.
