Description

Immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of the Alps with our Alpine Chalet Weather House. This miniature masterpiece of craftsmanship, standing 13 cm high, is a true gem that combines tradition and utility, bringing a touch of Alpine folklore into your home. Its structure faithfully recreates the rustic architecture of mountain chalets, with a pitched roof and light, decorated walls that simulate exposed beams.

Crafted with meticulous care by skilled artisans, the house features a clearly visible thermometer in the center that provides an accurate temperature reading (Celsius and Fahrenheit). The emotional heart of this timepiece, however, are the two folkloric figures, dressed in traditional attire and entirely hand-painted with vibrant colors: the woman on the left, carrying a flower, and the man on the right, equipped with his umbrella. Every detail, from the window with the red railing to the decorative elements at the base, is brought to life by the brilliant colors and the matte finish, which enhances the quality of the artisanal work.

Detail & Meaning

The symbology of this little house lies in its practical and folkloristic function as a "weather house". The two miniature figures represent the eternal duality between good weather and bad weather. The woman, dressed in lighter clothes and carrying floral symbols, appears when the internal hygrometer indicates dry air, typical of high pressure and clear skies. The man, on the other hand, dressed in dark clothes and carrying an umbrella, makes his appearance when humidity increases and pressure drops, indicating the arrival of rain or bad weather. This representation is a fascinating and playful reminder of Alpine folk wisdom and the deep connection between man and the rhythms of nature.

Story

The history of the weather house, or figurative hygrometer, has its roots in 17th-century Central Europe, spreading particularly in the wooded regions of Germany's Black Forest and in alpine areas. Despite their playful appearance, these instruments are technically hygrometers: their mechanism is based on the torsion of a taut animal or vegetable hair, which shortens in the presence of dry air (making the woman come out) and lengthens with increasing humidity (making the man come out). This tradition has been embraced and reinterpreted by the craftsmanship of Val Gardena, which has managed to combine scientific functionality with the unmistakable aesthetics of alpine chalets, transforming a simple measuring instrument into a decorative element rich in folklore.
