Wood carving in Val Gardena is a tradition dating back to the 17th century, born out of the need to occupy the long winter months and handed down from generation to generation. Although its history is dominated by large sacred sculptures, local craftsmanship has always distinguished itself also in the creation of smaller utilitarian and decorative objects. These napkin rings represent the evolution of this tradition: the skill of sanding and finishing precious maple wood is applied to a modern furnishing accessory. They demonstrate how Ladin master carvers are able to combine the historical legacy of their techniques with the aesthetic demands of contemporary design, bringing a piece of Alpine history directly to the table.
