Description
Step into the heart of alpine artisan tradition with this magnificent cuckoo clock, a true masterpiece of wood carving. The entire structure, measuring 45cm, has been expertly crafted from maple wood, renowned for its fine grain which allows for every subtle detail of the carving to be captured. The wood is treated with a deep, burnished mahogany finish, enhancing its texture and adding a rustic, timeless elegance.

This clock transcends its practical function to become a vivid and dynamic representation of the forest. The scene is dominated at the top by a proud bellowing stag, whose majestic antlers rise above the pointed roof of the cuckoo. The entire composition is framed by an abundant carving of oak leaves and acorns. To the sides of the Roman numeral dial, the figures of a resting hare and a vigilant bird of prey are balanced. The rhythmic beat is completed by decorative weights carved in the shape of pine cones, adding a touch of authenticity to this wall sculpture that celebrates the harmony of wild nature.

Detail & Meaning
The iconography of the forest-themed cuckoo clock is rooted in hunting and alpine traditions. The Deer, placed at the peak, is universally a symbol of nobility, strength, regeneration, and rebirth (due to the annual renewal of its antlers). Its "bellowing" pose evokes the call of the wild and the woodland life cycle. The Hare and the Bird of Prey, symbols of fertility and vigilance respectively, represent the balance of the food chain and the wisdom of nature. The Oak leaves, decorating the entire frame, symbolize longevity and robustness. The clock, in this context, is not just a tool, but a talisman that celebrates life and time marked by nature.
Story
The history of the cuckoo clock (Kuckucksuhr) is closely linked to the Black Forest region in Germany, where it was perfected in the 18th century. This style, known as the hunting clock (Jagduhr), became enormously popular due to its rich decoration using local animal motifs. Although the traditional clockmaking mechanism historically comes from Germany (as sometimes indicated on the dial), the high-quality sculptural skill and carving that characterize these works of art are a hallmark of the master craftsmen of Val Gardena. Through the precision of Dolfi's work, the ancient clockmaking tradition merges with centuries-old alpine sculptural wisdom.
