The Tau, Franciscan symbol par excellence, has its roots in the veneration of Saint Francis of Assisi. This "T" shaped cross was the Saint's favorite sign, which he used to sign his letters and as an emblem of his spirituality. The Tau, in fact, is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet and, in the biblical tradition, symbolizes salvation and divine protection. Francis adopted it inspired by the prophet Ezekiel (Ez 9.4), where the Tau is the sign placed on the foreheads of the righteous to save them from destruction. For Saint Francis, the Tau represented the love of Christ crucified and his dedication to poverty, humility and peace. Wearing it or displaying it is a way to recall the Franciscan values and the spirituality of a man who changed the history of the Church.
