The Basilica di San Pietro, the heart of this refined wooden decoration, is the beating heart of Christianity and the burial place of Saint Peter the Apostle. Considered the first Pope, Peter was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ and a central figure in the founding of the Church. His story is steeped in faith, courage and martyrdom. Originally a fisherman, he was called by Jesus to become a "fisher of men." After the crucifixion of Christ, Peter assumed a leadership role among the disciples, spreading the Gospel and performing miracles. Arriving in Rome, he preached there and, according to tradition, was crucified upside down under the emperor Nero, considering himself unworthy to die like his Master. His tomb, venerated since ancient times, became the site on which the majestic Basilica arose, a symbol of the continuity of faith and apostolic succession. The veneration of Saint Peter is universal, recognized as the "rock" on which Christ built his Church, patron saint of the Popes and guardian of the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
