The figure of Saint Christina in this Dolfi sculpture emerges with a unique majesty and sweetness, embodying the sculptural excellence of Val Gardena. The Saint is depicted in a standing, contemplative pose, enveloped in rich red-brown drapery that contrasts beautifully with the light beige undergarment and delicate complexion.
Attention to detail is paramount: the eye is drawn to the finely crafted shiny gold crown and the golden borders that trim the cloak and dress. In her right hand, the Saint gracefully holds a bundle of stems and flowers, while in her left she cradles an open book, a symbol of divine Wisdom. The expression on her face is serene and placid, capturing the essence of faith and inner calm, inviting reflection.
Each piece is the result of meticulous craftsmanship that combines intense opaque colors with luminous hand-applied gilding, enhancing the deep folds of the garments. In line with our tradition, the choice of material is carefully made according to size to ensure stability and definition: the sculpture is made of maple wood for sizes up to 56 cm, renowned for its carving fineness. For larger dimensions, starting from 60 cm and up to 200 cm, linden wood is used, ideal for its structural lightness. This combination guarantees a work of art destined to last over time.
