Description

A masterpiece of carving that captures the essence of alpine life and hunting passion. This magnificent "The Hunter" Cuckoo Clock, in its impressive size of 58 cm, is entirely made of precious Linden Wood, expertly crafted by the artisans of Val Gardena. The structure, which reproduces an elegant mountain chalet, is dominated by the proud and dynamic figure of a large stag with branched antlers, in a roaring pose.

Every detail celebrates the richness of the forest. The entire front is richly decorated with carved oak leaves and branches, framing the two side deer heads and the clock face. To the sides of the dial, an eagle and a hare are sculpted with extraordinary accuracy, symbols of alpine wildlife. Attention to detail extends to the hunting horn, centrally placed, and the three carved pine cones that serve as functional weights. Above, a small opening with a carved balcony houses two pairs of human figures painted in vivid colors, ready to come to life. The burnished finish enhances the rich carvings and natural wood grain, transforming a simple timepiece into an authentic family heirloom, perfect for furnishing with alpine elegance.

Detail & Meaning

The deer, or stag, is a powerful and ancient symbol, especially in alpine and hunting traditions, representing nobility, regenerative strength, and the unbreakable bond with the forest. Its antlers, renewing annually, symbolize the cycle of life and authority. The composition, rich in faunal elements like the eagle, hare, and hunting horn, establishes a complete iconographic landscape that celebrates the balance of wild nature and respect for alpine hunting tradition. The sculpture embodies Biedermeier aesthetics and rural life, where the clock is not just a timekeeper, but a guardian of nature's rhythm and ancient folk customs.

Story

The origin of the modern cuckoo clock is historically placed in the German Black Forest in the 18th century, but its charm quickly spread throughout the European mountain regions. This type of clock merged perfectly with the centuries-old tradition of wood carving in Val Gardena, an art that flourished in the 17th century. Gardena artisans excelled at transferring the richness of detail and stylistic accuracy typical of their sacred and secular sculptures onto the wooden casing, creating objects that are not mere clocks, but authentic works of art that tell stories of mountains and handcraftsmanship passed down from generation to generation.
