This sculpture captures the humble grace and industriousness of alpine life. The Shepherdess with Bunch of Branches is a work of fine Dolfi craftsmanship that radiates calm and serenity. Dressed in traditional attire of warm, earthy tones – a veiled yellow-orange dress, a reddish-brown cape, and a muted blue-gray shawl – every chromatic detail enhances the softness of the carving.
The finish, achieved with transparent or veiled colors, allows the natural wood grain to emerge, giving the figure an authentic and lively appearance. Her face, with gentle features, expresses a thoughtful quietude, while her hands are busy: one tightly holds the realistically textured bunch of branches, the other extends in a gesture of welcome and offering, making the figure dynamic and touching.
True to the sculptural tradition of Val Gardena, the smaller sizes (up to 18 cm) are meticulously carved from Maple Wood, known for its compactness and ability to capture minute details. For the impressive 56 cm size, precious Linden Wood is used, allowing artisans to sculpt larger volumes while maintaining the lightness and perfection of the forms. Each statue is entirely hand-painted, transforming the wood into a vibrant and lasting representation.
