Description

The sculpture Shepherd and Seated Youth captures a moment of quiet contemplation and serene waiting, essential to enrich the composition of your Nativity scene. The adult man, standing, is depicted with a pensive and humble expression, his pinkish cloak draped around his figure in deep, realistic folds. His gesture, with an open hand, suggests a silent offering or the acceptance of the imminent miracle.

Next to him, the youth sits with a gentle smile, leaning on his staff, a symbol of simplicity and vigil. The harmony between their earthy and muted colors – from dull olive green to rosy mauve – and delicate facial expressions, gives the work a warm and natural realism, typical of Alpine sacred art.

This magnificent pair is entirely hand-carved in the Dolfi workshops in Val Gardena. As our artisan tradition dictates for smaller sizes (up to 15 cm), the work is made of precious Maple wood. The C (Colored) finish enhances the details with opaque colors that allow the underlying wood texture to be felt, while the N (Natural) and 3G (Three Shades of Brown) variants celebrate the purity of the carving, letting the grain of the material speak for itself.

Detail & Meaning
These two Nativity scene characters, distinct but combinable, embody the joy of the Nativity. Their sunny faces, hand-painted with oil colors, express the joy for the birth of Jesus. The craftsmanship of Dolfi, with attention to detail, makes these figurines a visual emotion, celebrating the sacredness of the event.
Story
The Nativity scene celebrates the birth of Jesus, a central event in the Christian faith. The tradition of the living Nativity scene was introduced by Saint Francis of Assisi in Greccio in 1223, to make the mystery of the Incarnation more tangible. Since then, the Nativity scene has become a universal symbol of joy, hope, and love, representing the Holy Family and the characters who witness the birth of the Savior.
