Description

Allow yourself to be touched by the profound spirituality and craftsmanship contained within this Statue of Saint Simon the Apostle. Every detail of this wooden sculpture, carefully crafted in our workshop in Val Gardena, speaks of faith and centuries-old tradition.

The figure stands in an upright and contemplative pose, draped in robes with rich and dynamic folds. The chromatic richness is immediately evident: the brick red of the outer tunic is combined with the grey-blue of the inner robe, but it is the luminous golden mantle, finished with gold leaf details, that gives solemnity and value to the work. The features of the face, the thick beard, and the bare feet are treated with touching realism, emphasized by the oil coloring that enhances their nuances.

Saint Simon is depicted with his distinctive attributes: the open book, a symbol of the Gospel preached with zeal, and the large saw, the grim instrument of his martyrdom. The saw has a metal blade and a light handle, in stark contrast to the base sculpted to simulate a rock, from which the figure rises.

In line with our tradition of high sculpture, the wooden material is chosen with meticulous attention: this statue is made of precious maple wood for sizes up to 56 cm, ensuring a perfect rendering of fine details, and of linden wood for larger sizes, ensuring stability and monumental magnificence. A masterpiece of sacred art that illuminates every devotional space.

Story
San Simone, known as the Cananeo or the Zelota, was one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus. His figure is often associated with Jude Thaddeus, with whom he shared martyrdom. Tradition holds that he preached in Persia and Mesopotamia, where he suffered martyrdom by beheading or, according to other sources, by sawing, hence the iconography that portrays him with a saw, a symbol of his torment. Venerated as the patron saint of woodcutters and lumberjacks, his feast day is October 28. His life and sacrifice are an example of unwavering faith and dedication to the Gospel message.
