This sculpture captures the drama and spirituality of Saint Sebastian the Martyr with artisanal mastery that honors the tradition of Val Gardena. The figure of the young soldier is portrayed at the supreme moment of his martyrdom, tied to a tree trunk in an arched pose that communicates both athletic strength and mystical resignation. The detailed musculature and the restrained expression of the face, with half-closed eyes, accentuate the emotional intensity of the work.
The polychrome finish (variant C) brings life to the saint's body with delicate flesh tones, in stark contrast to the cream-white drapery and the dark red cloth, enriched with refined golden borders. Attention to detail is evident in the three arrows piercing the body and the emblems of his military status – a shield with a cross relief and part of a sword – placed at the base of the trunk. The Natural Wood (variant N) version is also available, which enhances the original grain of the material.
Each sculpture is carved with profound care. The smaller sizes, up to 56 cm, are made from precious maple wood, appreciated for its fine grain that allows for capturing the smallest expressive details. For larger and monumental sizes, from 56 cm upwards, robust linden wood is used, ideal for ensuring stability and magnificence to the finished work, perpetuating the sculptural tradition of Val Gardena. The choice between these two essences guarantees maximum quality and durability for every desired size.
