Saint Rita of Cascia, born Margherita Lotti in 1381, is one of the most beloved and venerated saints, patron saint of impossible and desperate cases. Her life was marked by great suffering and trials: a difficult marriage, the loss of her husband and children, and entry into the Augustinian convent of Cascia after numerous rejections. Her deep faith, patience and charity made her an example of Christian virtue. She is often depicted with a thorn on her forehead, a symbol of the stigmata received in vision of the Passion of Christ. Her veneration is linked to the numerous miracles attributed to her intercession, which have earned her the title of "Saint of the Impossible".
