Description

Celebrate the excellence of sacred art from Val Gardena with this majestic sculpture of Saint Norbert. Crafted by the expert hands of Dolfi master artisans, the statue captures the solemnity and devotion of the founder of the Premonstratensian Order.

The Holy Bishop is depicted with his most distinctive iconography: he wears a golden miter and sumptuous ecclesiastical vestments in terracotta red, defined by broad and natural folds. Attention is focused on the brilliant gold details of the borders, which enhance the majesty of the robes and the rich decoration of the pastoral staff. His left hand holds the open liturgical book, upon which rests the symbol of the Eucharistic Sacrament.

The "Colored Wood" finish enhances the chromatic contrasts, while the "Natural Wood" version highlights the grain of the material. Each piece is a masterpiece of sacred sculpture, meticulously crafted in every detail, from the thick beard to the contemplative expression.

Consistent with our tradition, the statue is made of maple wood for sizes up to 56 cm and exquisite linden wood for larger dimensions, ensuring quality and durability in every format, from small altar to large niche.

Detail & Meaning
Iconography and Symbolism:
1. Bishop: Represents the spiritual authority and pastoral guidance of the Saint.
2. Pallium: Distinctive symbol of the metropolitan, indicates his jurisdiction and connection to the Apostolic See.
3. Monstrance/Chalice (with spider): Key attributes that recall Saint Norbert's profound Eucharistic devotion, highlighting his faith in the Blessed Sacrament.
Story
St. Norbert, founder of the Premonstratensian Order, is revered for his deep Eucharistic piety. His depictions show him as a metropolitan bishop, recognizable by the pallium. The key attributes, the monstrance or chalice with spider, symbolize his devotion to the Eucharist, often linked to a miraculous episode in which a spider that fell into the chalice did not contaminate the Sacrament. His life was dedicated to the reform of the Church and to preaching.
