The cloak, in a deep terracotta red-brown, wraps the figure in ample draped folds, accented by gold borders that simulate its preciousness. Every detail, from the elegantly decorated miter to the pastoral cross, is carved with extreme care and hand-painted by expert artisans. The polychrome finish enhances the luminosity of the colors and the texture of the thick beard and layered vestments.

Saint Leander of Seville (c. 534 – 600 AD) was a pivotal figure in Spanish Christianity, Bishop of Seville, and a Doctor of the Church. He is primarily remembered for his role in the conversion of King Reccared and the Visigothic people from Arianism to Catholicism, a crucial event in Spanish religious history. He was also the elder brother and spiritual mentor of three other influential saints: Isidore, Fulgentius, and Florentina, all eminent figures in the Church. His feast day is celebrated on March 13 or February 27 in some traditions. This statue celebrates his legacy as a spiritual and intellectual guide.
