Born into a noble family in 6th century Rome, Gregory followed an extraordinary civil and religious career before being elected Pope in 590. Despite the weight of his responsibilities as Church leader, St Gregory always maintained a spirit of service and dedication to the common good. He was a caring shepherd for his flock, leading with kindness and compassion and showing a sincere love for others.
His literary works, including his writings on morality and spiritual homilies, continue to nourish the souls of millions of believers around the world. His deep spirituality and commitment to service to others remain a beacon of light and hope in our daily lives.
On the feast of St Gregory the Great, we invite all of you to reflect on his example and imitate his generosity and charity towards others. May his kindness and wisdom inspire us to live with love and compassion, bringing the light of Christ into our communities and throughout the world.
