Capturing the spirit of the Poverello, this sculpture of Saint Francis of Assisi is a work that radiates profound spirituality and an indissoluble bond with creation. The carving captures the Saint in his most intimate moment of communion, offering an image of peace and meekness.
Saint Francis' serene and contemplative gaze is directed towards the dove that confidently rests on his raised hand. At his feet, the wolf of Gubbio and the lamb lie peacefully, symbols of the reconciliation that Francis brought between man and nature. The folds of the coarse habit, cinched by the cord and the rosary with the Tau Cross, are masterfully sculpted, while the stigmata, visible on his hand and chest, recall his sacrificial love.
Each piece is hand-carved and finished following the ancient and celebrated artistic tradition of Val Gardena. To ensure maximum detail fidelity and optimal resistance, the sculpture is made of fine maple wood for variants up to 56 cm in height. For the most imposing sizes, starting from 56 cm, robust linden wood is used. It is also possible to select the precious version in authentic Italian olive wood, in addition to the classic oil-colored finish that enhances the earthy shades of the Franciscan habit.
