Description

The sculpture of Saint Clement Dolfi embodies the devotion and artisanal skill of Val Gardena. Observe the rich chromaticity of the cope, painted in an intense dark burgundy red, whose wide golden borders enhance the volume and drapery. The Saint is presented in a pose of deep contemplation, with a serene and concentrated gaze directed towards the open book, a symbol of Wisdom and Holy Scripture. Every detail is meticulously finished: from the pointed miter with the symbol of the cross, to the richly gilded pastoral staff. The faces, hands, and garments are executed with the utmost precision, the result of centuries of sculptural tradition.

This work of art is available in different finishes that enhance its beauty: from natural wood (N) to the fully colored version (C) with precious simulations of gilded and metallic details, up to the three-shade brown finish (3G). In line with our tradition, each statue is made of solid wood, carved and finished by hand by our master carvers.

Depending on the chosen size, the material used varies to ensure maximum stability and detail: the work is made of maple wood for sizes up to 56 cm and linden wood for larger sizes. An eternal tribute to faith, carved in the heart of the Dolomites.

Detail & Meaning
1) Iconographic and symbolic elements: Saint Clement, anchor.
2) Religious meaning: Saint Clement is a Pope and martyr, often associated with the anchor as a symbol of steadfast faith and hope in Christ, even in the face of persecution or martyrdom by drowning.
Story
San Clemente I, fourth Pope and successor to Peter, lived in the 1st century AD. His figure is shrouded in an aura of mystery and veneration. He is remembered for his "Letter to the Corinthians," a fundamental document for the history of the early Church, which testifies to his authority and his commitment to unity. Tradition has it that he was martyred by drowning in the Black Sea, with an anchor tied around his neck, hence his iconography. He is the patron saint of sailors, stonemasons and children. His feast day is November 23.
