In 2013 to receive the classification of the Basilica, the upgrading of the main chapel to ambo level, the improvement of lighting and delimitation was carried out.
It receives 2.5 million pilgrims a year, being the second Portuguese shrine after Fatima, although it does not have a favorable geographical situation, nor does it benefit from communication routes.
The shrine was elevated to a minor basilica by Pope Francis on March 21, 2015 in commemoration of its 400th anniversary.
