Description

Let yourself be enveloped by the serene contemplation of the sculpture of Saint Agnes of Montepulciano, a masterpiece of carving that embodies the devotion and elegance of sacred art. This representation captures the Saint in a moment of quiet, dressed in a majestic monastic habit painted in rich shades of brown that allow a glimpse of the living grain of the wood.

Every detail is the result of centuries-old craftsmanship: from the small lamb crouching at her feet, a symbol of her purity, to the precious crozier with a golden curl, and the rosary elegantly hanging from her waist. The sweet expression and downcast eyes of the Saint instill a deep calm, while her hands carefully hold the book of rules.

True to the tradition of Val Gardena, this sculpture is made by selecting only the finest woods. For variants up to 56 cm, maple wood is used, renowned for its fineness in carving. For larger sizes (from 60 cm upwards), linden wood is used, ideal for ensuring stability and monumental magnificence. A work that combines faith, beauty and the excellence of Made in Italy.

Detail & Meaning
1) Iconographic and symbolic elements: Nun's habit, abbot's staff, book, lamb.
2) Religious meaning: The habit symbolizes humility and devotion. The abbot's staff represents spiritual authority and guidance. The book alludes to the Holy Scriptures or the monastic rule, a symbol of wisdom and faith. The lamb, in addition to the reference to the name Agnes, embodies purity, innocence and the sacrifice of Christ.
Story
Saint Agnes of Montepulciano, born in 1268, was a figure of exceptional devotion, entering the convent at only nine years old. Her life was marked by miracles, such as the founding of a convent at 15 years old, manna rains and the apparition of the Child Jesus. An example of humility and charity, she dedicated her life to prayer and helping those in need. Dolfi's maple wood sculpture depicts her with a staff, a book and the lamb at her feet, a symbol of purity, offering a daily inspiration of faith and love.
