Description
Our Lady of Fatima with Crown wood carved Statue; The confirmation of the Church
On April 28, 1919, the construction of the Chapel of Apparitions began. On October 13, 1930, the Bishop of Leiria declared """"worthy of faith the visions of the children at the Cova da Iria"""", thus authorizing the cult of Our Lady of Fatima.
The foundation stone of the larger church was blessed on May 13, 1928, by the Archbishop of Evora, while the dedication, under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary, took place on October 7, 1953. The title of basilica was granted by Pope Pius XII with the Brief """"Luce Superna"""" on November 11, 1954.
On May 13, 1946, Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella, as papal legate, crowned the statue of the Virgin of Fatima before a crowd of eight hundred thousand pilgrims.
Detail & Meaning
1) Iconographic and symbolic elements: Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima, crown, carved wood.
2) Religious significance: The Virgin of Fatima represents the Marian apparition, a symbol of hope and intercession. The crown enhances her divine royalty. The wood, a natural material, evokes authenticity and artisan tradition, with Val Gardena guaranteeing mastery and devotion.
Story
The Madonna of Fatima, venerated throughout the world, originates from the Marian apparitions that took place in 1917 in Cova da Iria, Portugal, to three young shepherds: Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco. The Virgin Mary appeared to them six times, asking for prayer, penance and the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart. The apparitions culminated in the "Miracle of the Sun", witnessed by thousands of people. Fatima is today one of the most important Marian shrines, a destination for millions of pilgrims seeking spiritual comfort and intercession. Its devotion is linked to messages of peace, conversion and hope, which still resonate today in the hearts of the faithful.
