The sculpture captures the compassionate essence of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, depicted in her iconic white habit bordered with blue, a symbol of the Missionaries of Charity. With a gesture of welcome and offering, her left arm extends forward and downward, while her right hand clutches a rosary, reflecting her life of prayer and service. Her face, marked by time and wrinkles, shows profound seriousness and dedication, with her gaze slightly lowered conveying humility.

Every detail of the drapery, from the veil to the folds of the sari, is meticulously crafted by the master sculptors of Val Gardena. Saint Teresa of Calcutta, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in 1910 in Skopje, was an Albanian-Indian Catholic nun and missionary. After moving to Ireland and then to India, in 1950 she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation dedicated to serving the poorest of the poor in over 133 countries. Her work included managing hospices, soup kitchens, orphanages, and schools. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she was canonized on September 4, 2016. Her feast day is September 5, the anniversary of her death in 1997. Admired for her charity, she is co-patron of the Archdiocese of Calcutta.
