L'arte di scolpire angeli e figure sacre in Val Gardena risale al XVII secolo, quando gli abitanti iniziarono a dedicarsi all'intaglio del legno durante i lunghi mesi invernali. Gli addobbi natalizi, in particolare, sono una tradizione consolidata, evolutasi nel tempo per includere rappresentazioni più elaborate come questa composizione "Luna e Angelo". L'uso del legno naturale, in particolare l'acero, per gli ornamenti più piccoli, testimonia la fedeltà ai materiali locali e alle tecniche tramandate di generazione in generazione, mantenendo viva l'eredità artistica e spirituale della tradizione altoatesina.
