Crafted with the artisan mastery of Val Gardena, the statue of Melchior captures the solemnity of Epiphany. The figure stands with a regal and humble posture, bringing his precious tribute in a small golden casket. The elegance of the sculpture is enhanced by the chromatic contrast: the deep burgundy red of the outer mantle wraps the body, revealing a wide golden drapery that adds a touch of metallic luxury. The underlying tunic, in a sober cream color, is embellished with delicate lily (fleur-de-lis) decorations. The face, framed by a richly detailed turban and surmounted by a crown, expresses a contemplative serenity, typical of an act of devotion.
According to our artisan tradition, this sculpture is entirely carved from maple wood, the preferred material for smaller sizes (up to 56 cm), renowned for its fine grain and resistance, which allows for impeccable definition of the smallest details, from the flow of the garments to the facial features. The finishing touch is given by the hand-painted coloring (variant C), which brings life and depth to the shades, or it is available in the natural finish or in the refined three shades of brown (3G) version, to perfectly adapt to every style of Nativity scene.
