Description

This Lying Sheep captures a moment of pastoral tranquility, essential in any Nativity scene. The sculpture is a masterpiece of artisanal detail, depicting the animal in a resting pose, with its head raised and an expression of profound serenity.

What is striking is the meticulous crafting of the fleece: each wavy curl is hand-carved to simulate a thick and realistic coat. The finish, expertly applied, features an off-white and very light beige tones, skillfully shaded with cream nuances that enhance its depth and antique effect. The hooves are painted in a reddish-brown that adds a vivid natural contrast.

Crafted according to the ancient sculptural tradition of Val Gardena, this statuette is entirely carved from Maple Wood, the preferred material for small to medium-sized sculptures (6 to 14 cm). We offer the possibility to choose between different finishes: colored (C), natural (N), or with an exclusive three-shade brown painting (3G), ensuring that each piece perfectly integrates into your Nativity scene, adding warmth and authenticity.

Detail & Meaning
1) Lying sheep, thick wool, lively gaze, maple wood, creamy white color.
2) The sheep is a symbol of purity, innocence and obedience, often associated with Christ as the "Lamb of God". Its lying position evokes peace and submission to the divine will. The creamy white color reinforces the idea of purity.
Story
The lamb, a symbol of purity and meekness, evokes the figure of Saint Agnes, a young Roman martyr of the 3rd century. Venerated for her unwavering faith and her chastity, Agnes refused any compromise, facing martyrdom with courage. Tradition has it that, when led to the stake, the flames went out and her hair miraculously grew, covering her. She is the patron saint of purity, gardeners and girls. Her liturgical memorial occurs on January 21. The lamb, often depicted with her, symbolizes the lamb of God and her innocence.
