The sculpture of the Kneeling King Balthazar captures the essence of devotion and opulence, typical of the artistic mastery of Val Gardena. This regal figure is depicted in the most sacred moment of adoration, with his body bent in a gesture of profound humility and reverence.
The eye is immediately drawn to the chromatic richness: the vast outer mantle shines with an intense polished gold color, whose finish accentuates the deep folds sculpted with extraordinary realism, almost suggesting the preciousness of gold leaf. Below, the opaque brownish-purple tunic is finely decorated with a stylized four-petal light-colored motif, a detail that testifies to the meticulous care of the artisan. The kneeling pose, the flowing beard, and the downcast gaze confer a solemn and mystical expression.
In his hands, Balthazar delicately holds a precious carved casket, while at his feet rests a golden crown on a scarlet cushion: symbols of royalty offered to the Child. Every element, from the visible veins of the natural wood on his face and hands, to the elaborate buckle at his neck, is the result of high-precision carving.
This work of art is made of precious maple wood, a material chosen for its fineness and compactness, ideal for ensuring maximum definition of details in all available sizes (20, 30, 40, and 60 cm), thus honoring the most authentic Dolfi sculptural tradition.
