Description

Let yourselves be enchanted by the majestic elegance of this Dolfi equine sculpture, a tribute to the strength, freedom, and beauty of the horse. Every detail is sculpted with the millennial wisdom of the master carvers of Val Gardena, capable of breathing life into raw material.

The subject is depicted in a pose of proud stillness, with an arched head and a calm, noble gaze. The "coloured" finish is applied entirely by hand and enhances its musculature and volume, masterfully reproducing a coat with warm reddish-brown tones (sorrel or chestnut), in stark contrast to the dark mane and tail. The accurate shading gives depth and stylized realism to the work.

This sculpture, available in smaller sizes (from 6 to 18 cm), is made of Mapel Wood. This wood is the excellent choice for statues under 56 cm, renowned for its fine grain and ability to capture the minutest details. By choosing the "Natural" variant, you can admire the purity of the wood grain, while the "Coloured" variant expresses the maximum pictorial art.

Detail & Meaning
The horse, since ancient times, has been a universal symbol of untamed strength, speed, and nobility. In art and mythology, it is a vehicle for heroes and gods, often representing journey, spiritual transport, and untamed vital power. Its static and measured pose in this sculpture evokes a sense of calm vigilance and regal dignity, transforming a piece of craftsmanship into an emblem of classical majesty and profound inner energy.
Story
Wood carving in Val Gardena boasts a centuries-old tradition, flourishing since the 17th century. Although Sacred Art is the best-known expression, the valley's artisans have always excelled in depicting secular subjects, such as figures of peasant life and animals. This tradition of equine sculpture is linked to the historical importance of the horse as a means of work, transport, and a symbol of prestige in the Alpine valleys. The stylistic fidelity and anatomical care with which the coat and musculature of the horse are reproduced testify to the deep knowledge of the subject and the sculptural skills handed down from generation to generation in the Dolfi workshop.
