Mountain stories come to life every hour with this Heidi’s Cabin cuckoo clock. Its linden-wood case recreates a light-brown chalet with a roof and chimney, crossbar windows, and red shutters decorated with small hearts.

Outside the house, Heidi, Grandfather and Peter wait for the goats to return. The wooden dial and hands complete the distinctive little-house style. This musical model has no dancing figures.

On every hour, the door opens and the cuckoo calls out the hour with a charming echo. One of 12 melodies then plays, with the tunes changing throughout the day.

A side switch lets you turn off only the music or both the music and cuckoo call. The dusk sensor automatically silences the sounds in the dark while the clock continues to keep time. The quartz movement runs on 3 included 1.5 V C batteries.

A cuckoo clock, especially an Alpine chalet model bearing the inscription «HEIDI HAUS», is more than a timekeeper. It evokes pastoral life and the ideal of simplicity in the mountains. The figures on the dial—the older man, the girl and the boy with their animals—symbolise harmony between people, nature and the cycle of rural life. Their neutral, stylised expressions are characteristic of Val Gardena’s traditional craftsmanship, which captures an enduring, universal scene rather than a passing emotion. The result is a sense of calm and nostalgia for a slower, more measured pace of life.

Although the cuckoo clock is historically associated with Germany’s Black Forest, its interpretation in Val Gardena reflects local mastery in bringing mechanics and sculpture together. The South Tyrolean woodcarving tradition, rooted in the 17th century, evolved from sacred art to secular objects and decorative mechanisms such as these clocks. The inspiration for Heidi’s Chalet, although Heidi is not a religious character, recalls the famous novel by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, a literary icon that shaped the collective image of the romantic, unspoilt Alps. This clock combines Val Gardena’s centuries-old sculptural tradition with a tribute to one of the best-loved stories of Alpine folklore.
