The reclined and suffering face, with half-closed eyes and a furrowed brow, expresses a sense of total abandonment, while the crown of thorns adds emotional intensity to the scene. Particular emphasis is given to the loincloth, expertly draped and finished in a striking two-tone design that combines deep blue with sections of brilliant gold leaf, recalling the royalty of the sacrifice.
Every detail, from the dark nails to the "INRI" inscriptions on the tablet, is meticulously crafted. Christ's body is made of Maple Wood, the preferred material for sculptures of these sizes (up to 56 cm), renowned for its fine grain that allows for incredibly detailed work and an impeccable finish.
