The Baroque style Corpus Christi is a masterpiece of sacred sculpture that captures the final instant of sacrifice with dramatic and emotional realism. The work is a hymn to the craftsmanship of Val Gardena, capable of infusing life and pathos into wood.
The figure of Jesus is sculpted with extraordinary anatomical precision: the tense musculature, visible ribs, and reclined body highlight the physical agony. The face, marked by suffering but serene, is framed by dark curls and a thick beard.
What distinguishes this sculpture is the vibrant use of color and the opulence of details. The loincloth, draped in an intense blue and sky blue, features deep folds that simulate movement, enriched by precious golden inserts that recall tassels or bells, typical of Baroque ornamental richness. The wounds, represented with vivid and realistic red, add emotional power to the subject.
Made with the utmost care, the base material follows the Dolomitic sculptural tradition: this figure is carved from maple wood for sizes up to 56 cm, appreciated for its fineness in working minute details. For larger dimensions (from 60 cm upwards), linden wood is used, which is more suitable for ensuring stability and magnificence for large works.
