Description

This composition of the Holy Family captures the essence of tranquility and divine protection. A work that goes beyond simple representation, becoming a tangible symbol of unconditional love and faith that illuminates the path.

At the center, Mary is seated in a gesture of supreme tenderness, her head gently bowed as she cradles the Infant Jesus, who sleeps peacefully wrapped in blue swaddling clothes. Her serene face and the brick-red and petrol-green robes radiate a deep, maternal peace.

At her side, the imposing but reassuring figure of Saint Joseph watches over his family. With bare feet, a symbol of humility, he holds his pilgrim's staff in one hand and a lantern in the other, casting a warm yellow-orange glow, illuminating the scene in the night. The rich drapery of the garments, sculpted with deep folds, adds volume and dynamism, enhancing the artisanal mastery of Val Gardena.

Dolfi Materials: This precious 15 cm sculpture is made from paste of wood. The coloring is expertly applied with opaque and semi-gloss tones that give the work a refined antique and rustic effect, making every detail vibrant and long-lasting.

Detail & Meaning
1) Iconographic and symbolic elements: Nativity (Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph), wood pulp.
2) Religious meaning: The Nativity represents the birth of Jesus Christ, the heart of the Christian faith and a symbol of hope and salvation. Wood pulp, a traditional material, evokes the authenticity and simplicity of the origins, recalling the sacredness of the event.
Story
The Nativity celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, a central event in the Christian faith. It is not associated with a single saint, but represents the mystery of the Incarnation, when God became man. The veneration of this sacred moment is manifested in the tradition of the Nativity scene, conceived by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1223, to make visible and tangible the poverty and humility of Christ's coming. It is a universal symbol of hope, love, and spiritual renewal, celebrated every year at Christmas throughout the Christian world.
