Story
Saint Nicholas of Bari, or Myra, is one of the most venerated saints, the patron saint of sailors, merchants, children, and many cities. He lived in the 4th century in Lycia (modern-day Turkey), and was the bishop of Myra. His figure is linked to numerous miracles, including saving sailors from a storm and the dowry offered to three poor girls to prevent prostitution, an episode that gave rise to the tradition of Santa Claus. His relics were moved to Bari in 1087, making the city an important pilgrimage center. His veneration extends to the East and West, symbolizing generosity and protection.
