Its external structure, left unfinished with natural and rough bark, offers a tactile and visual contrast with the delicacy of the internal carvings. Through the circular openings, similar to windows onto an enchanted world, two openwork scenes are revealed.
On the left, the eternal sweetness of the Nativity: Mary and Joseph in devout contemplation of the Baby Jesus, flanked by the ox and the donkey. On the right, a suggestive motif of stylized fir trees and shapes that recall the magic of the Alpine winter and the Alpine landscape.
The internal sculptures are crafted with master artistry. Given the 13 cm size, the carving of the panels is sculpted in precious maple wood, known for its fine grain and ability to capture every tiny detail of the openwork design.
