Every detail is handcrafted by the Dolfi sculptors, conveying the intense suffering and resignation of the Messiah. Observe the inclined expression, the half-closed eyes reflecting pain and majestic dignity under the crucifixion, not represented but deeply felt.
The polychrome finish enhances the dramatic effect: the skin is painted with pale and muted flesh tones, emphasizing emaciation and visible ribs. The Crown of Thorns is rendered with meticulous precision, a central symbol of his humiliation. The perizoma, draped with realistic folds, features a contrast of dark blue-gray and a precious detail in burnished metallic paint or aged gold on the right thigh, lending a touch of noble antiquity to the work.
