Description
Welcome to the ancient tradition of Val Gardena craftsmanship, expressed in this magnificent cuckoo clock. This wall sculpture, celebrating forest life and hunting art, is a masterpiece of carving that catches the eye with its richness of detail.

The structure is entirely made of maple wood, the preferred choice of our master carvers for works of this size (25 cm), ensuring an impeccable finish and a deep texture. The absence of paint enhances the warm, dark tone of the natural wood.

The entire composition is dominated by the majestic deer head with branched antlers, placed at the apex, a symbol of nobility and strength. Around the contrasting dial (black with white Roman numerals), an abundant oak-themed decoration unfolds, with leaves and branches carved with millimeter precision. Observe the life that comes alive at the sides: a vigilant rabbit and a wise owl, flanked by hunting accessories such as the curved horn and the game bag. The two weights, carved with incredible realism in the shape of large pine cones, complete the authentic aesthetic of this classic Black Forest cuckoo clock. A piece of art that marks time with the unmistakable charm of natural wood.

Detail & Meaning
This iconography is deeply rooted in hunting and alpine culture. The deer (or stag) is historically a symbol of nobility, longevity, and regeneration (thanks to its antlers which fall off and regrow). Its stately position at the apex of the sculpture emphasizes its regal role. The owl represents wisdom, knowledge, and nocturnal observation, often associated with the night and mystery, while the rabbit is a symbol of agility and vigilance. Overall, the hunting theme, framed by oak leaves (a symbol of strength and endurance) and pine cones (a symbol of life and fertility), celebrates the harmony between man and the wilderness, typical of the Black Forest imagery.
Story
The cuckoo clock (Kuckucksuhr in German) is an icon of German watchmaking, born and developed primarily in the Black Forest region (Schwarzwald) from the mid-18th century. Although the idea of a clock with a mechanical bird was already known in Europe before, it was here that woodcarvers and clockmakers joined forces to create the distinctive design we know today. The first models were simple, but they soon evolved into elaborate sculptures with hunting, forest, and railway themes, becoming a symbol of world-renowned craftsmanship. The master carvers of Val Gardena have adopted and reinterpreted this tradition, applying their centuries-old sculpting technique to the classic design of the Black Forest clock, bringing the precision of Alpine art to every detail.
