This Pietà sculpture, inspired by Michelangelo's masterpiece, is a touching expression of faith and craftsmanship, created by the master carvers of Val Gardena.
The scene captures a moment of profound sorrow: the Virgin Mary sits with her head bowed in a gesture of agonizing yet contained sadness, contemplating the lifeless body of her son. Her garments create a rich and voluminous drapery, painted in sober shades of dark blue-grey and vibrant crimson. Christ's body lies inert on her lap, showing the marks of the Passion – particularly the clear spear wound on his side – details executed with sculptural precision that instills realism.
Each piece is meticulously crafted with a painted finish that evokes a slightly antiqued and opaque look, accentuating the drama of the representation.
Dolfi Precious Materials: The sculpture is available in three main finishes: colored (C), natural (N), and the exclusive Italian Olive Wood (U). To ensure maximum fidelity and dimensional stability, the carving uses Maple Wood for sizes from 5 cm to 36 cm. For monumental variations, from 60 cm up to 200 cm, Linden Wood is used, known for its stability and suitability for large formats.
