Description

Admire the sweetness and profound devotion captured in this splendid sculpture of the Shepherdess Lucia of Fatima, a masterpiece of carving and painting from Val Gardena.

The youthful figure of Lucia is immortalized in a pose of pure prayer: her hands are gracefully joined at chest height, while her serene and tranquil facial expression reflects her unwavering faith. Every detail of her humble attire is meticulously cared for: from the long olive-green veil framing her face, to the cream-white blouse, and the skirt. A powerful symbol of her spirituality is the rosary hanging from her hands, enriched with a simple and brilliant gold-colored cross, also recalling the golden engraving of her name on the rectangular base.

Crafted according to Alpine artisanal tradition, this statue is available in two finishes that enhance its beauty: the hand-painted variant by master decorators, or the natural wood finish, which celebrates the pure grain of the wood.

Following our production philosophy of excellence, the sculpture is made of precious maple wood for all sizes up to 56 cm, ensuring sharp details and durability. For larger sizes, starting from 60 cm, robust linden wood is used, ideal for ensuring stability and magnificence even in monumental works.

Detail & Meaning
1) Iconographic and symbolic elements: Lucia of Fatima Shepherdess.
2) Religious meaning: Represents Lucia dos Santos, one of the three seers of Fatima, witness to the Marian apparitions. Symbolizes faith, devotion, and the message of Fatima.
Story
The Shepherdess Lucia of Fatima, sculpted in maple wood by Dolfi, depicts Lucia de Jesus dos Santos (1907-2005), a Portuguese religious sister who witnessed the Marian apparitions at Fatima.
At the age of ten, between May 13 and October 13, 1917, Lucia, together with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto, witnessed six apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the Cova da Iria. After the death of her cousins (beatified in 2000 and canonized in 2017), Lucia entered the convent, first among the Dorothean Sisters and then as a Carmelite, taking the name Maria Lucia of the Immaculate Heart.
She was the author of the "Secrets of Fatima", messages which, according to her, were transmitted to her by Our Lady. Her life was dedicated to faith and the dissemination of the message of Fatima.
Her process of beatification was initiated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008, surpassing the norm of five years from death, as a testimony to her extraordinary spiritual importance. Her remains rest in the Basilica of the Rosary in Fatima, next to those of Jacinta and Francisco, symbolizing the unity of the three shepherd children.
