The sculpture of Saint Verena is a hymn to devotion and excellent craftsmanship of Val Gardena. This work captures the saint in an upright and contemplative pose, with her head slightly tilted and a look of deep serenity.
The visual impact is powerful thanks to the chromatic contrast: the intense red of the inner garment is combined with the dark blue of the cloak, enhanced by bright golden yellow details that line its edges and adorn the symbolic attributes. The meticulously hand-executed finish gives light and depth, especially to the golden areas, which reflect light with an almost metallic effect, typical of gold leaf processing.
The draperies are masterfully carved, creating deep folds that give volume and dynamic movement to the figure. The bare feet add a touch of humility and realism.
Regarding the materials, following the Dolfi tradition for large works, this statue is made entirely of lime wood. Given its impressive range of available sizes (from 60 cm up to 200 cm), the use of lime wood guarantees both greater structural stability and the perfect base for carving the most complex details and for applying precious finishes.
