Description

The sculpture of Saint Marius captures a moment of deep reflection and teaching. This majestic male figure, with his thick beard and flowing hair, stands on a rock-shaped base, inviting contemplation.

The skill of the Dolfi artists is evident in the accurate rendering of theVESTMENTS: the earthy brown of the tunic is beautifully contrasted by the burgundy red of the cloak, embellished with sections and outlines in glossy metallic gold that enhance its sacredness. The pose is dynamic and solemn: the Saint holds the Holy Scriptures or the Tablets with his left arm, while the index finger of his right hand points to the texts, in a gesture of profound dedication to the Word, symbolizing his mission as a guide and teacher.

True to the sculptural tradition of Val Gardena, this work is available in a wide assortment of sizes (from 15 cm to 200 cm), made from selected high-quality woods. For sizes up to 56 cm, the statue is carved from precious maple wood, known for its fineness and compactness. In sizes from 60 cm upwards, sturdy linden wood is used, ideal for ensuring stability and magnificence for large-format works.

Story
Saint Marius, a Persian nobleman of the 3rd century, is celebrated on January 19th. With his family, he traveled to Rome to assist persecuted Christians, burying martyrs and comforting prisoners. Arrested under Claudius II, he remained steadfast in his faith despite torture, suffering martyrdom in 270 AD. His story of courage and devotion is often depicted with Persian noble garments and a palm of martyrdom. A hand-painted maple wood craft captures its essence, enhancing his strength of spirit and his faith that transcends cultural barriers.
