Description

Let yourselves be captivated by the rustic and irresistible charm of our Lucky Piglet. This miniature sculpture, 4 cm high, celebrates the essence of Val Gardena craftsmanship, combining the simplicity of forms with the richness of natural materials.

The central body is crafted from a cross-section of a log, a detail that makes each piece truly unique. The side part retains its original bark, with its rough texture and deep dark brown color. The front surface (the snout) reveals the fascinating annual rings of the wood, emphasizing its organic and artisanal origin. The elements are skillfully assembled: the ears, pointed and erect, are made of a soft material, similar to felt or suede, in a warm reddish-brown. The four cylindrical dark wooden legs provide stability to this static and friendly figure.

Its expression is created by minimal incised strokes – two dots for the eyes and the mouth – which give it a serene and slightly curious air, making it a discreet companion and a powerful amulet of joy and abundance.

Detail & Meaning
Iconographically, the piglet is a universal symbol of good luck and prosperity. Its association with abundance stems from its ability to accumulate reserves, making it a metaphor for wealth, savings, and fortune. Dolfi's stylistic approach focuses on childlike simplicity and a design that celebrates wood in its most natural form. The expression, created with minimal and clean lines, evokes feelings of serenity and innocence, reinforcing the concept that fortune is often found in simplicity and connection with nature.
Story
The tradition of gifting or owning a piglet as a good luck charm has ancient roots, particularly widespread in Germanic cultures (where it was called "Glücksschwein," or lucky pig). Historically, the figure of the pig was associated with wealth and security, as it represented a valuable asset that ensured survival, especially during the winter months. This custom has survived to this day, particularly during the New Year period, as a wish for a year full of abundance and financial prosperity. The Dolfi sculpture fits into this consolidated tradition, reinterpreting it through the sculptural mastery of Val Gardena, renowned worldwide for its wood art since the 17th century.
