The DOLFI wooden nativity ox is hand-finished by artisans in Val Gardena, bringing warmth and an authentic touch to the Nativity scene. Made from natural maple wood, it is proportioned for 8 cm nativity figures and fits harmoniously into the scene. Its own dimensions are 9 cm long and 8 cm high. Each piece is unique: the wood grain makes every figure one of a kind and reflects Val Gardena’s centuries-old carving tradition. Ideal for collectors, lovers of handcrafted nativity scenes and anyone looking for a meaningful Christmas gift.

The ox symbolizes the people of Israel and, by extension, humanity recognizing its Saviour. Its quiet presence beside the manger recalls Isaiah’s prophecy: “The ox knows its owner.” This figure is carved from maple wood and hand-painted with natural colours that bring out the shades of its coat. Scaled for a nativity scene with 8 cm figures, it pairs beautifully with the other DOLFI nativity figurines for a harmonious display.

The ox is one of the oldest and most symbolic figures in the Christian Nativity scene. Present in Nativity depictions since the Middle Ages, its place beside the manger evokes warmth, simplicity and nature’s closeness to the mystery of the Incarnation. In Val Gardena tradition, nativity animals are carved with the same care as sacred figures: every detail, from the musculature to the coat, is rendered with craftsmanship because the ox too is part of the story.
