Our Lady of Fatima with Crown wood carved Statue; The confirmation of the Church
On April 28, 1919, the construction of the Chapel of Apparitions began. On October 13, 1930, the Bishop of Leiria declared "worthy of faith the visions of the children at the Cova da Iria", thus authorizing the cult of Our Lady of Fatima.
The foundation stone of the larger church was blessed on May 13, 1928, by the Archbishop of Evora, while the dedication, under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary, took place on October 7, 1953. The title of basilica was granted by Pope Pius XII with the Brief "Luce Superna" on November 11, 1954.
On May 13, 1946, Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella, as papal legate, crowned the statue of the Virgin of Fatima before a crowd of eight hundred thousand pilgrims.
