Saint Jude small Wooden Sculptures; Saint Jude Thaddeus Apostle

October 28th

The saint who is celebrated today along with Simon """"the Canaanite"""", although belonging to the group of 12 apostles, should not be confused with the same name apostle traitor of Jesus, Iscariot. It is in fact Judas brother of James, called Thaddeus, which means """"magnanimous"""". The name of Judas is well known in the Jewish tradition: it was, in fact, one of the sons of Jacob and from the tribe of Judah would come the lineage of the Messiah himself. Moreover, in the second century before Christ, Judas Maccabaeus had been a hero of the Jewish revolt against Antiochus IV. According to the account of the evangelist John in chapter 14 during the last supper Judas Thaddeus asks Jesus, """"Lord, how did it happen that you must manifest yourself to us and not to the world?"""" """"If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him,"""" is Jesus' response. After the Ascension, Judas Thaddeus, according to tradition, also went to bring the proclamation of Christ to the world. According to some, he evangelized Mesopotamia; according to others, Libya. Perhaps he too died a martyr and was buried in Persia.
