Saint Paul Wooden Sculpture Artist; Saint Paul the Apostle

June 29th

He is the Apostle to the Gentiles, the greatest missionary in history. Saint Paul, a Pharisee converted to Christ, co-opted into the apostolic college by Christ himself on the road to Damascus, consecrates himself unreservedly to the announcement of the incarnation, death and resurrection of Jesus. He is the first Christian theologian. He is remembered on June 29 together with Saint Peter.

Etymology: Paul = small in stature, from Latin

Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul Apostles. Simon, son of Jonah and brother of Andrew, was the first of the disciples to profess that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, from whom he was named Peter. Paul, the Apostle of the Gentiles, preached the crucified Christ to Jews and Greeks. Both of them, in faith and love of Jesus Christ, proclaimed the Gospel in the city of Rome and died as martyrs under Emperor Nero: the former, as tradition says, was crucified upside down and buried in the Vatican near the Via Trionfale, the latter was pierced with a sword and buried on the Via Ostiense. On this day the whole world celebrates their triumph with equal honor and veneration.
